How to Change Fitness Goals on Apple Watch

If you have an Apple Watch, chances are you’re sharing your progress with contacts, including friends, family members, or colleagues. You might also engage in a little friendly Apple Watch one-on-one competition from time to time, comparing your activity ring results with others. Something to consider when starting an Apple Watch competition, however, is that everyone has different personal goals set in the app regarding calorie burn, exercise minutes, and stand hours, which can skew results. What’s more, as you work to get stronger and more fit, you might find that you are ready to change your own goals. You can change your activity ring goals at any time on Apple Watch.

There’s a small catch. To make sure the Apple Watch gives you the best data and tracks your progression, you need to set specific fitness goals for how active you are each day. The Activity App manages those goals, so it’s important to be comfortable adjusting your fitness benchmarks via the Apple Watch (even on Android) as you continue to improve. Here’s how to do it.

How to Change Activity Goals on Your Apple Watch

  1. Open the Activity app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Swipe all the way to the bottom and tap Change Goals.
  3. At first, you will be prompted to change the Move Goal on Apple Watch. Tap the Minus (-) or Plus (+) icon to set your preferred move goal.
  4. Once you’re done or you don’t want to change the Move Goal, hit the Next option.
  5. Then, change your Exercise Goal by tapping the Minus (-) or Plus (+) icon. Then, tap Next.
  6. Finally, edit the Stand Goal on your Apple Watch and hit the OK button.

How to Change Apple Watch Activity Goals Using an iPhone

In addition to changing fitness goals from your Apple Watch, you can also change them using your iPhone that’s connected to your Apple Watch. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Fitness app and tap the Activity section.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Change Goals.
  3. You will be prompted to change your Move Goal on your iPhone. Use the Minus (-) or Plus (+) icon to choose a desired number and tap Change Move Goal. If you don’t want to change this goal, just tap Change Move Goal to move to the next activity goal.
  4. Then, you’ll see your Daily Exercise Goal with a recommendation to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Using the Minus (-) or Plus (+) icon, set your exercise goal on your Apple Watch and tap Change Exercise Goal.
  5. Finally, you have the Daily Stand Goal with a recommendation to move for at least a minute every hour while you’re awake. Set this number as per your preference and tap Change Stand Goal.

How to Disable Apple Watch Activity Notifications

When you complete a goal, your Apple Watch sends you a notification. It gives suggestions on how to achieve your goals and encourages you to close your activity rings. Although these notifications are helpful, sometimes they can get annoying, and you might want to turn them off. You can disable Apple Watch Activity Notifications from the Watch app on your iPhone. Here’s how you do it:

  • Open the Watch app and tap Notifications
  • From the list of apps, tap Activity.
  • Now, browse through and toggle ON/OFF the options for which you want and don’t want to see notifications.
  • If you want to mute all Activity notifications, choose the Notifications Off option.
